Blue Paint Colours
Blue paints work well for creating a calm atmosphere, especially in bedrooms and bathrooms. Choose shades of blue paint like Woad or Hicks' Blue to add warmth. If you're looking for a bolder finish, go for something with a hint of green, like Canton. For a softer look, consider a shade of blue paint like Bone China Blue from the Colour Scales family. These choices make it easy to bring tranquility and style to your space.
Pale blues
Pale blue paint colours offer a soothing and gentle aesthetic, inspired by the calming sights we encounter daily, like the sky and reflections in water. This natural colour, also a popular choice in fashion, can create a serene atmosphere. While blue is a common pick, concerns about it feeling too cold may deter some.
When choosing pale or light blue paint, consider the direction of natural light in the room. South and west-facing spaces can benefit from the cool tones during the warmer parts of the day. Conversely, east-facing rooms might be enhanced with a warmer colour treatment. For versatile options, consider shades like Bone China Blue and Delicate Blue. These hues, infused with subtle hints of other colours, seamlessly complement a variety of palettes.
Green-based blues
The bright blue-green paint colours in the Little Greene palette add a distinct air of excitement to any project. Our classic Air Force Blue, the mid-strength blue with high pigment complexity, combines so well with Pink Slip, French Grey - Mid, red furnishings and gold. More strong and vibrant, Marine Blue can be paired to great effect with warm mid strength greys including French Grey.
Muted blues
Muted blue paints, like the popular Celestial Blue, are easy to work with due to their subtle incorporation of grey. This heavenly shade, a mix of muted blue with a touch of green, creates a beautiful and calming atmosphere in living rooms and bedrooms. For added ambiance, pair it with a stronger blue.
Strong blues
From our palette of strong blues, Royal Navy, Dock Blue and Basalt work well on walls or used all-over in dining rooms and studies, where an intimate cocooning feel is the order of the day. Hicks' Blue can also evoke the same mood of sophistication and stature. Smalt, bright and energetic, serves well in rooms with greater activity - including kitchens.
Let’s not forget front door paint colours – second only to the classic black, strong blues provide popular curb-appeal. In particular, the near-black Basalt and Dock Blue are chosen for their fantastic pairing with both chrome and brass door furniture.

Many worry about blue because it has a reputation of coldness. Yet, others see it as warm and comforting. The current popular trend to use high strength and muted blues delivers serenity and comfort not often found with other colours.
Basalt - a dark blue, close to black - has become a standard for walls. Grey Blues have proven their worth too, with Hicks’ Blue leading the charge. This rich warm blue paint colour is easy to live with, in that it is a warm and gentile shade which combines so well with greens (Green Verditer) and yellows (Bassoon) alike.
Pale blues do create space within a room. Try Celestial Blue as an easy-living, sophisticated, period colour, which will always please as it relates so well to other colours and accessories.
