Steps for Painting Wood Floors

Before painting your hardwood floors, it’s important to prepare the surface correctly.

  1. The first step is to clean the floor completely and allow it to dry. Avoid using chemical cleaners if possible.
  2. If you have soft or knotted wood flooring, make sure to seal this with a wood primer as this will prevent staining.
  3. Apply one coat of Intelligent ASP (All Surface Primer) to provide the best surface for painting. You could thin the paint with 10-15% addition of water to allow maximum absorbency into the wooden surface.
  4. Paint two coats of Intelligent Floor Paint in your selected shade with a brush or roller, allowing to dry completely in between - up to 4 hours. Make sure to apply the paint carefully, starting from the corner furthest from the door. This will allow you to reach the entire space without needing to step on any drying paint as you leave the room!
  5. Allow the paint to dry completely before you carefully return your furniture to the space. Our Intelligent Floor Paint is touch dry in just 1-2 hours, but we recommend waiting at least 48 hours for the paint to fully cure before you move any furniture back in. Be very careful not to drag and damage the coating when replacing large furniture items such as sofas.
